Tip: for the first part of the verse, leave the index finger of your left hand where it is and
just change the C shape to a G shape by moving your middle and ring fingers one string down.

Tip 2: For the F-chord, use your left thumb to play the bass note for an easier transgression.

Tip 3: At the * strum down one only instead of normal strumming pattern.

With a suitcase full of sparks

Honey, I'm just trying to find my way to you

C G
Lit up every campfire
  Am G
I Found out in the dark
      F G C
Oh, I cut down all the cottonwoods

Off buffalo trails of the Indians
    F G C G
The Oklahoma sky was cutting through

C G
Along the tracks with the runaway

He just talks and talks and talks

       C F E
In the cold, by the satellite field
    Am G C F
And I quit panning gold, digging holes
      C G C
Yeah, I'm just trying to find my way to you

I opened up my guitar case
    Am G
And all the songs were blue

  C G
I haunted all the alleys
       Am G
Lord I drifted down the valleys

Honey, I'm just trying to find my way to you

And I quit casting hooks
F C F E
Off the California coast we held so dear
    Am G C F
And I quit flashing smiles, and running wild
      C G C
Yeah, I'm just trying to find my way to you

All the countless days across the sea of blue

            C G
Learned the language of the mocking bird
    Am G
She took and twisted all my words
       F G C
Honey, I'm just trying to find my way to you

Oh, we could open up that suitcase full of sparks

So, I'm sure some of you have just figured this out, but I thought I'd clarify for those just learning who need everything presented outright. After all the verses he goes straight into the C G Am G with the last C of the verse the first C of the pattern. Also, after the first two verses, the C G Am G pattern is only played twice through before starting the next verse. The third pattern is played 4 times (correctly presented) and the last exiting pattern is played 8 times with a C chord to take you out. The final verse is odd, I just strum the E F F and then start strumming the G slowly back into rhythm, transfer to the G7 and then finish out like normal. Hope that helps. Not sure if this was based off a live performance or not, but if you're playing with the album version the counts the OP presents are wrong.

Sorry it took so long, everyone. But I finally changed the lyrics to match those on Gregory's website. I tabbed this song off of a YouTube video before it was officially released and the lyrics were unclear to me in places.
