Tommy's cover has a similar but slightly more upbeat vibe than the original. Chords are largely the same.

Verses and Chorus all just bounce back and forth between E and Am.
Strum pattern is kind of like (D-x--U-D-U-D-U*D-x--U-D-U-D-U*)
where * is the chord change and x is a downward scrape of the strings muted.
 
Its not a rigid pattern, just kind of feel it out.

Go between F and G two times for 2 bars each time.
Barre or open versions of these chords both sound good.
 
I think the (D-x--U-D-U-D-U*D-x--U-D-U-D-U*) strum from the verse works here too.
On second time through just downstrum G double-time.
 
After bridge, re-enter the chorus with Am.
