Good tab. I've often wondered about the lyrics. "Ninety-nine years FOR one dark day" makes more sense in a syntax sense. In other words. I got 99 years imprisonment for that one dark day where I killed my woman. Tim O'Brien wrote this song and he seems to sing it each way in all of the YouTube videos.

I did more research. Tim O’Brien did NOT write this. According to Allmusic.com it was composed by Jesse Fuller (1896-1976). If you search on YouTube, you can find Jesse’s version where he explains the lyrics as “99 years was the life sentence and one dark day was the day you couldn’t stand it anymore”.
