I never could find a strumming pattern that sounded good with this song, but I have a picking pattern that sounds okay. When I play this, I do the 1st as a baseline and just try to alternate pick the 3rd and 5th*, so the first verse looks like the following: (For string numbers I use EADGBe=654321) Am (5-2-5-3, 5-2-5-3) C (5-1-5-3, 5-1-5-3) Gimme' a new single, make me a new baby, Em** (6-1-6-2, 6-1-6-2) Dm (4-1-4-3) Dm to C (4-1-5-1)*** Gonna' eat all the candy while you straddle and lay me. *this is the pattern Jack White uses on a lot of recordings of "We Are Going to Be Friends, so if you're having trouble imagining it try looking up that song **for Em chord, I play 3rd fret only on the high (skinny) e string, with no other fingers on the fret board, so in the pattern below, the strings played are EeEB, EeEB (so it's E as base with the G note on the high e string as the third and then the open B string fifth) ***after the 4-1, let go of everything and throw a finger down on the third fret of your A string, making the played note a C. That C plus the now-open high e is the "5-1" in the Dm to C "4-1-5-1"
