The Night The Pugilist Learned How To Dance Tab

From Sting's lovely 2012 musical about the town he grew up in. I did learn from the video of his solo acoustic performance which he plays with Capo on 2nd fret on a 3/4 scale guitar with several very long stretches which I omit here. The version with his band he transposes the last verse up a half tone (which is also not included here). I do add several "walk down" chord changes. A video of my live play of this tab is available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njS3iCdR4io.Esta informação foi útil?

Verse 2 and Verse 4 are the same chords shown above (as Verse 1)

[Verse 2]
well of course she'd ignore me her friends would all sneer at my bloody nose dripping my cauliflower ear
for it's hard to convince in a romantic pose with a lovely black eye and a broken nose
where a girl is attracted to skills more refined than the puglilist's art and so I inclined
to take my self serious as a modern romancer I secrectly learned all the moves of a dancer

[Verse 4]
well I'd waltz with a broomstick and if I was caught I'd pretend I was sweeping or practising sport
but I really had eyes for your mother you see wanting her to acknowledge this version of me
but now everyone's watching expecting I'll fail but there's fire in my belly there's wind in my sails
I knew it was risky I was takin' a chance I couldn't retreat now I had to advance

* the first 6 lines of each subsequent verse are same as shown in tab lines 24 - 51 above:

then:

[Verse 3]
* so I swing to the left I swing to the right keep my eyes on my partner just like a fight
I just keep to the rythym you keep to the beat the important things never to look at your feet
but a miracles happened and your mind's in a trance though the strategy's subtle retreat and advance

It's all about attitude all in your stance attention to detail leave nothing to chance

[Verse 5]
* so I swing to the left I swing to the right keep my eyes on my partner more or less like a fight
I just keep to the rythym and follow the beat the important things never to look at your feet
but a miracles happened and your mind's in a trance they're all laughing and cheering and looking askance

Don't let your guard down ry a jab with your right or you lose her on points by the end of the night
then a miracle happpens and everyone's screaming ou're pinching yourself just in case you're still dreaming

You've taken the initiative you've taken your chance
