The bass guitar is actually hitting that low C note. If you listen closely, the guitar never gets that low. It seems to just keep hitting the same chord in the intro part. Makes me question what tuning was really used. The bass is far more discernible than the guitar in this song, so it does almost seem as if the guitar is tuned down.
