Example: Dear Sir I write this note to you to tell you of me plight
         G G C C B B A C D D C B A G
For at the time of writing it, I'm not a pretty sight

This is traditionally sung accapella but these are the chords to accompany it with guitar.
Each cord is strummed once where marked and the words are sort of chanted like an Irish folk song(which it
is)

[Verse 1]
     C F G C
Dear Sir I write this note to you to tell you of me' plight
    C F G C
For at the time of writing it, I'm not a pretty sight
   C F G C
My body is all black and blue, my face a deathly grey
     C F G C
So I write this note to say why Paddy's not at work today

[Verse 2]
      C F G C
While working on the fourteenth floor some bricks I had to clear
    C F G C
But tossing them from such a height was not a good idea
    C F G C
The foreman wasn't very pleased, he is an awful sod
    C F G C
He said I had to cart them down the ladders in me hod

[Verse 3]
     C F G C
Well clearing all those bricks by hand, it was so very slow
     C F G C
So I hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below
     C F G C
But in me haste to do the job, I was too blind to see
       C F G C
That a barrel full of building bricks was heavier than me

[Verse 4]
   C F G C
So as i did untie the rope the barrel fell like lead
    C F G C
And clinging tightly to the end, I started up instead
  C F G C
I shot up like a rocket, and to my dismay I found
     C F G C
That halfway up I met the bloody barrel coming down

[Verse 5]
         C F G C
Well the barrel broke me shoulder, as to the ground it sped
    C F G C
And when I reached the top I banged the pulley with me head
  C F G C
I clung on tightly numb with shock from this almighty blow
          C F G C
While the barrel spilled out half its bricks some fourteen floors below

[Verse 6]
   C F G C
Oh when these bricks had fallen from the barrel to the floor
  C F G C
I then outweighed that barrel and so started down once more
      C F G C
But I clung on tightly to the rope me body racked with pain
    C F G C
And halfway down I met the bloody barrel once again

[Verse 7]
        C F G C
Now the force of this collision halfway down the office block
       C F G C
Caused multiple abrasions and a nasty case of shock
    C F G C
But I clung tightly to the rope as I fell toward the ground
      C F G C
And I landed on the broken bricks the barrel'd scattered round.

[Verse 8]
    C F G C
Now as I lay there on the ground I thought I'd passed the worst
        C F G C
But the barrel hit the pulley wheel and then the bottom burst
   C F G C
A shower of bricks rained down on me I didn't have a hope
   C F G C
So as I lay there bleeding I let go the bloody rope

[Verse 9]
    C F G C
The barrel now being heavier so started down once more
    C F G C
And landed right across me as I lay there on the floor
   C F G C
It broke three ribs and my left arm and I can only say
  C F G C
I hope that you will understand why I'm not at work today
