Rust-World is track no. 18 on Silent Hill: Book Of Memories Original Soundtrack. It was released for the
PS Vita in 2012. I'm not sure if or where this plays in-game.
It was composed by Daniel Licht who took over composing duties for this spin-off, as well as it's main
entry precessor; Downpour. Which was the first game in the series to not have been scored by Akira Yamaoka
after his departure from Konami. On this accompanying CD release, Daniel was credited for playing the
percussion, keyboard, guitar, dulcimer and mandolin.
Clips of Licht recording these instruments have been seen by me and most of them were not sampled, unlike
what Yamaoka did. His colleague Norman Kim gave further visual confirmation in a tribute suite after
Daniel passed away, playing some of these mandolin parts. There is a lower pitch instrument that is going
to mostly mirror what the mando plays, but in the octave below. It's hard to gauge whether it's a nylon
string guitar, oud or hammered dulcimer. I'll just refer to it as "stringed instrument".
Since the tremolo notes are in the minority this time, it made more sense to mark them instead of the
plucked ones. So do pluck unless noted otherwise. There is a lot of reverb in places, which can be
simulated with ghost notes. For which I suggest you do not pluck the string again and just hammer them
on or pull them off with a tap of your fretting hand. But that's optional, you could just omit the
ghost notes. Standard tuning mandolin transcript in GDae.
