Alrighty folks, this song starts out with a fairly obvious palm mute, somewhere around the fifth fret.
Then the verse kicks in, and it goes something like this:

Play that verse part twice, holding the D chord in the last bar on the second time around, and then continue
to what is something of a pre-chorus:
