[Lyrics]
[Verse]
Maryanne, do you remember, the tree by the
River, when we were seventeen?
The dark canyon wall, the call and the answer, and the mare in the
Pasture, pitch black and barin' its teeth.
I recall the sun in our faces, stuck and leaning on
Graces, and bein' strangers to change.
The radio and the bones we found frozen, an' all the thorns and the
Roses, beneath your window pane.
[Chorus]
Now I'm asleep in a car, I mean the world, to a
Potty-mouth girl, a pretty pair of blue-eyed birds.
"Time isn't kind or unkind," you liked to say. But I
Wonder to who, and what it is you're sayin' today.
[Verse instrumental]
Ooooh, oo o ohh-hh-hh, oo o ohh-hh-hh, oo o o ooooooh x2
[Chorus]
Now I'm asleep in a car, I mean the world, to a
Potty-mouth girl, a pretty pair of blue-eyed birds.
"Time isn't kind or unkind," you liked to say. But I
Wonder to who, and what it is you're sayin' today.
[Verse]
Maryanne, do you remember, the tree by the
River, when we were seventeen?
The dark canyon road, I was coy in the half-moon, happy just to be
With you, and you were happy for me. (end G)

Iron and Wine aka Sam Beam wrote an excellent song. Your tab put insight into his magic.

Well, I already referenced which video I used as a template - and it's indeed 1/2 step higher (along with 3 of the other 4 versions of the song I've heard before you shared the new link). It all comes down to personal preference and how tight your voice feels that day, right?

I agree with Flycstr. It depends on how the artist felt that day too, they can play their song in what ever key they want.
Also, on my "Live Current Volume 7" CD from Minnesota's 89.3 The Current station (MPR), it is played capo 3 live. Just sayin'
