Note: Play around with hammers D/Dsus2/Dsus4, and G to C, etc. Instead of straight strumming,
find a shuffle rhythm, get a slow roll going with fingers or a flat pick,
and let the chord notes bob up and down.
This is such an underestimated and underappreciated song.
I'm an old Literature student and teacher, so here's a question about the text:
Who do you think is the "speaker" of the final verse?

I play this song with Am7 instead of C and I play it like a 12 bar blues with a turnaround during the words, "Can't buy a thrill" then again before, during and after, "Leaning on the windowsill" leading to the Am7 then the D chord and back to the G-Am7-G-Am7 and so on throughout the song. I don't think I'm explaining properly, but the turnaround is simple: 3rd string 4the fret, 2nd string 3rd fret, 1st string open descending to 3rd string 3rd fret second string 2nd, 1st open then 2nd 1st, open followed by the G-Am7-G-Am7...Repeat repeat repeat....
