The album version is played with a capo on the second fret like dandicriscia said, but he plays it without the capo live. Also "well I spent my whole life - I think I might need you" are all played as power chords live. The part afterwards is arpeggiated.

Is there another chord or something different played when playing Em after D? It feels like there is something else or missing. Em sounds right but there may be more to it after. Any thoughts?

The tab is fine, it'd just be helpful to put that capo is on the second fret. Took me a second to figure it out.
