Originally recorded by Warren's son Jordan for the "Enjoy Every Sandwich" tribute album,
this is a song that Warren wrote and never released. A demo, however,
can be heard on the posthumously released anthology "Preludes: Rare and Unreleased"
[Intro] & [Interlude]
| G G D Em | Em Em C G | D G D Em |(¾) Em C D |
[Verse]
G D
I left my home in Monterey, just another low prospects man
Am Em
I'd rather work in a foundry than put fishes in a can
C G D
I'm thirty-five and I haven't traveled far
Am Em C
And I've spent all my money on this misbegotten car
Bm C
I'm up against it all like a leaf against the wind
G Em C
And this Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
Am G D C G
My Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
G G7 C A7
I thought I'd go to Fresno just to see my friend
D G C G D G
But my damn Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
[Interlude]
G D
I was speeding south on ninety-nine when the manifold started smokin'
Am Em C
I ran her off the shoulder, and now the axle's broken
– G/B D
It made a sound that cracked my heart in half
Am Em C
And with only half a half pint of vodka left
Bm C/A
I'm up against it all like a leaf against the wind
G Em C
And this Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
Am G D C G
My Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
G G7 C A7
I thought I'd go to Fresno just to see my friend
D G C G D G
But this damn Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
G Em C
My Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
Am G D C G
My Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
G G7 C A7
I thought I'd go to Fresno just to see my friend
D G C G D G
But my damn Studebaker keeps on brea-king down again

Thanks! I am playing your suggested chords on a uke, and it sounds great. I don't think this is quite 100% accurate, but it's almost perfect. I'd bet that it's 99% or better.
I do think the first C on line 7 (And this Studebaker...), should be a G. (In the "correction" window it is line 17.) There are also a few spots that I think could maybe use some slight adjustments, but I haven't yet put my finger on any better suggestions. (It may be that these are just nuances caused by the ukulele. I should probably play it on the guitar before I stick my neck out any further.)
To recap, great job and thank you very much. I am enjoying it, and it sounds great even on a uke.
