Don’t Let Us Get Sick – WARREN ZEVON – “LIFE’LL KILL YA” – 1999

The weird “Cmajsus2” chord is played x2001x

I pluck the strings individually like he does, rather than strum, it definitely sounds
better that way. Also, when it comes to the Am chord at the end of the third line of the
verse/chorus (i.e “all right?” “the line” and “in time”), he does a little decoration
phrase where he plucks the last three strings of the Am chord kinda quickly, listen out for
it in the song, it’s a nice touch.

I’m pretty sure it’s all correct here, maybe not exactly how he plays it but it sounds
good, that’s for sure. Another classic by Warren Zevon, enjoy and please leave comments
if you find any mistakes.

Don't let us get old
        C Cmaj7sus2 Am
Don't let us get stupid, all right?

[Verse]

     C
The moon has a face

And causes the ripples in time
      F C
I'm lucky to be here
        G Am
With someone I like
         F G C
Who maketh my spirit to shine

Don't let us get stupid, all right?
       F C
Just make us be brave
       G Am
And make us play nice
       F G C

Isn’t the weird “Cmajsus7” chord you’ve mentioned just a G dropping the low & high G notes and playing two Ds instead of two Bs on the middle four strings? Great work on the tabs, works for me. Thanks. (I’ve been looking up a lot of Warren Zevon songs lately (not much else to do stuck @ home). I knew he was a great songwriter (nobody does irony like Warren did (see Splendid Isolation)) and performer and musician, but I’ve come to realize he does really subtle things rhythmically. On this song, it’s in 3/4 time (it’s a frickin’ waltz!), but because of the emphasis of the lyrics and main notes, you get fooled into thinking it’s in 4/4. Next, I’m going to flail away at the rhythms in “Indifference of Heaven”!)

Thanks for posting this. Now, if I get to point of playing it without crying, I'll have accomplished something. The chords are good, and your transcription makes the piece immediately available to anyone who wants to sing this song for friends and loved ones.

Warren played it in G with capo on 5- might be easier to do the beautiful melody bit in that key.
