VERSE:
C Cmaj7 Am
Don't say goodbye, don't say hello
             F
We're just standing on the surface
C Cmaj7 Am

All the shame you've kept in your heart

CHORUS:
       F C G Am
It's not enough, it's not enough
          F C G
Just to say that we're okay
    F C G Am
I need your hurt, I need your pain
           F G C

VERSE:
C Cmaj7 Am
Let's not pretend, stop your parade
F

Do you even know me?

I already know who you are
C F

Reach in and touch my scars
C F
Know the price I paid for your heart

CHORUS:
       F C G Am
It's not enough, it's not enough
          F C G
Just to say that we're okay
    F C G Am
I need your hurt, I need your pain

It's not love any other way

BRIDGE:
   F G
A broken and contrite heart
               Am
I will not despise

Come as you are
                    F
I won't close my eyes
                    G
I won't close my eyes
                    Am
I won't close my eyes

Just in case you're not certain what a "Cmaj7" is, it is a C chord with a B note (the
seventh note in the C major scale)thrown in. Here's one simple way to play it on piano and guitar:

GUITAR: If you play a regular C chord and just take your finger off the B string, then
you have a Cmaj7 chord:

normal C chord:

e- 0 (play open)
B- 1
G- 0
D- 2
A- 3
E- x (mute)

Cmaj7 chord:

E- 0
B- 0 <---- open B string, giving the C chord its 7th
G- 0
D- 2
A- 3
E- x

PIANO: Very simple here. To play a Cmaj7, all you have to do is stretch your fingers and
add the B on top of the root triad (C-E-G chord --> C-E-G-B for Cmaj7)

Now, when I play this song on piano, I start off the verse with a 2nd inversion C chord,
and from there the Cmaj7 is super easy. All you gotta do is play what looks like an
inversion of an Em chord but still play a C in the bass; so basically, you just switch
out the C in your 2nd inv. C major chord with the B right next to it. (one-finger movement)

Thanks for putting this tab together. May have a correction to help out. Instead of the C7, try a C maj7 no5 (2nd string first fret, 4th string 2nd fret. Rest open and you're only playing strings 1 or 2 through 4.

Thanks for the music theory lesson!I had someone sort of explain the variations in 5, 7, and Major chords to me, but the way you explained it was so much easier to understand!
