The tree for the cross was standing

Tall and strong on a lonely hillside

And the leaves began to tremble

At his presence when Jesus walked by

Then he turned and he looked on its beauty

There were no trees so tall and so strong

And there all among the tree's branches

The birds sing a beautiful song

Then he stopped and he prayed beneath the shadow of the tree

Because he loved you and me

The hand that formed and fashioned the tree

Would be nailed to the same to save you and me

Then one day an army of soldiers

Made him carry the tree away

Transplanted it there on Calvary

And His love light still shines there today
