This version uses a first fret capo is to allow more hammers and pulls in the fast solo, which provides a sound more like the horn slurs (and is easier to play for my fingers). I have a no capo version at the end if using a capo bugs you.Esta informação foi útil?

OK, this might be a bit unusual, but hear me out.

Put a capo on the first fret, but do not transpose the song numbers here.
So, a 2 on the fifth string is a b natural, like without a capo,
but a 0* on the fourth string is d#, using the capo to fret the d up 1/2 step.

The opening lick, which can be

e|---------------
B|---------------
G|------------4--
D|---------4-----
A|------6--------
E|---7-----------

can also be

e|--------------
B|-----------4--
G|---------4----
D|------0*------
A|---2----------
E|--------------

*Capo raises 1/2 step

So, the numbers in this tab represent actual frets except the open notes,
notated with 0*.
The reason to use the capo is to allow more hammers and pulls in the fast solo,
which provides a sound more like the horn slurs (and is easier to play for my fingers).
I have a no capo version at the end if using a capo bugs you.

On the verses and choruses, the guitar tends to use
notes from just the top two strings with the rest of the strings
muted as percussion (chick-a-chick-a stuff),funk style.
This tab features the full chords, but most of the
inner notes are from the piano part. Stevie uses some
jazz chords with color notes that are not here, but these
are basically the forms.

The little turn on the G string at the top of the final ascending scale
G-4h6p4-
is not on the recording the first time through. Even in the other times through,
most of the horn players do not play it. I am not sure if they are missing it,
or if it is just an improvisation by the lead trumpet and sax players.
Play all these turns as fast as possible and lightly, like grace notes.

2nd Verse same as first

2nd Chorus

For the rest of the choruses (which are different than the first chorus,
particularly in the horn parts), this is an approximation of what I hear.
The actual parts are more complex and varied.

You can feel it all over.

This version is less natural for me because of all the picking
involved in weird places.
Alternatives to using the capo and keeping the easier fingering include
paying it down a half step in Bb instead of the recoded key of B.
Horn players prefer Bb anyway. Or, just tune the guitar up a half step
and think in Bb.
