When Joao Gilberto comes back into the verse, the melody figure changes
to this pattern for parts of the song: (You really need to listen to get
all the figures right, but hey it's jazz, you can do what you want)
Db6add9/Ab Eb9/Bb
e|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|
B|4---4---4-4---4-|4-4---4---4-----|6---6---6-6---6-|6-6---6---6-----|
G|3---3---3-3---3-|3-3---3---3-----|6---6---6-6---6-|6-6---5---6-----|
D|3---3---3-3---3-|3-3---3---3-----|5---5---5-5---5-|5-5---5---5-----|
A|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|
E|4-------4-------|4-------4-------|6-------6-------|6-------6-------|
Ebm9/Bb Ab13 Db6add9/Ab
e|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|
B|6---6---6-6---6-|6-6---6---6-----|4---4---4-4---4-|4-4---4---4-----|
G|6---6---6-6---6-|5-5---5---5-----|3---3---3-3---4-|3-3---3---3-----|
D|4---4---4-4---4-|4-4---4---4-----|3---3---3-3---3-|3-3---3---3-----|
A|----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|
E|6-------6-------|4-------4-------|4-------4-------|4-------4-------|
Repeat from the beginning of the melody from here. The chords run the same
throughout the song, the picking style is the only variation.
The ending of the song uses a different pattern as well, and is just the
Db6add9/Ab alternating with the Eb9, and on the very last one, a Db6add9/Ab.

Thanks for this PD Spicer. It's been an eye-opener working through these chords: a completely different way of playing the guitar that I hadn't come across before. I think it's amazing the way Gilberto highlights the jazz "colour" notes so that even with only 4 strings being sounded and often with fundamental notes missing the chord still works, e.g. the first C# chord doesn't even have C# in it yet I can definitely "hear" it! I've been looking recently at alternative tunings (Joni Mitchell, Rolling Stones, etc) but I think this bossanova style is far more interesting. Thanks again.

Just a small typo: the second G#13 is tabbed in the same way as the Eb min7(9) in the bar before it. Should be tabbed the same way as when G#13 is first played.

smallweed: thanks for your feedback, I've just submitted a revision with the correction you noted (hopefully it'll appear soon). Much appreciated, and glad to hear you've enjoyed this piece as much as I have.
