This song is pretty easy. You can almost use any to get the E/Em - G verse, C# - G# - F# prechorus, and E - A - C chorus down. I give this one 5 stars for that, because it covers all aspects in the various versions (from chords to tabs, plus timing). No other version needed to get the basics down. What I'm trying to work out now are the details that add the edge/flare to this classic.
I found if strumming, the E sounds better than the Em in the verses. Anyone agree? So, E replacing Em's throughout. However, trying to play like the song (broken down clearly in terms of magnifying the guitar on Guitar Hero World Tour, btw) there is a definite hold/pause on the first verse strum. I think it is a completely open E (000000) then a quick hammer on of Em (022000). This is followed by a quick palm-mute and switch to G, so it's hard to catch exactly what is going on (in terms of std E, power chord E, or Em). But, I think I figured that out.
Next is the C#, C#, G#, F# chorus part. Strummed that is okay, but there is way more going on here on the first measure of C#'s. Anyone got that figured out (the bass line does not stay on C#).
Then there is the E, E, A, C chorus part. Again, yes, in strumming simplicity, but not in detail. E, G, A, C works with the bass notes, but a full switch to G doesn't sound as good as staying on E if solo strumming. So who's got it figured out?
Back to my first comment, this is the best tab (to me) to use to get About a Girl down. And that's all chord posts should do in my mind, so 5 stars. The details are uncovered in the comments. I like that Ultimate Guitar will let Fender24 update his tab if the public comments point out a way to improve his original post.
