There is a tricky part you will see where you should play the
open D string, (indicated as a dash in the note sequence above)
which gives you time to move up to the C position on the A string.

Not bad, but the trickiness you refer to is caused by using different scale locations when it is not required. The whole first half should be played at or above the 12th fret and the second part at or below the 3rd.
