FREE BIRD
The track is based in G , and the 5 minute solo used mainly
the G minor pentatonic scale. I suggest practicing the sliding intro
with your finger first and then get out the bottleneck. Also it's
a good idea to rig your electronic tuner (you do have one?) up so
that when you play the guitar a bend a note you can see how close you get
, you should get a power supply for your tuner so you can turn it on
permanantly when your amp is switched on . This really does improve
you pitch. It is vital that you get the right pitch of the notes with
the slide or it sounds useless. Also add a bit vibrato with the slide
for extra effect. You only need a little bit distortion and not to much
for the solo either. Okay here 'tis.

Thats the main song covered , this repeats a few times and then when
come to the outro section . You can take your slide of now and
change to some rhythm playing and then it's the solo.
oh yes this is where there is some slight phasing , but also it's
switched off for the main body of the solo and gradually builds up
into the end section.

The Guitar Solo

Now the solo comes in , you guitar should not be totally
screaming for this but should have plenty of gain giving a good impact
the solo is very energetic , in the 2nd and 3rd sections notice
how the feel and timing slightly changed , I am only going to cover
the first part.

honestly, you have a few of the notes wrong, but i gave you a 3, bc you actually attempted a 4 min 30 second solo. free bird isnt an easy song to tab at all, but one thing about your intro: you do have most of your chords right, but the D/F# chord is actually fingered as a D chord w/ your thumb on the G on the low E string (3rd fret). You can hybrid pick or mute the A string, but the A string is never sounded. Also, the melody for the verses is off on yours. The very beginning of the slide part is sort of ok, but the lead slide part is way off: you start on the 7th fret on the G string then hammer on to G (12th Fret), then slide between the 9th and 10th frets on the G and D strings a few ways, (do it by ear) then slide one more time on the D from 9 to 10 then sound the 7th fret on the G string. Then, just go up and play the little octave fills. They're easy. But, great job on trying to tab the solo. Its definitely not an easy thing to do. Best bet, next time: split up each part for guitar. For the solo, try splitting up every 15 seconds. And for the slide part remember this: play chordal notes. Thats basically what it is, is notes from each chord played an octave higher. Just pay really close attention next time, but reaaaaally good job though. Once you get to the little repeated bend in the solo, you seem to be right on.
