Led Zeppelin
The intro thing is just a droning synthesizer and Jimmy playing the open
E-string with a bow. The overdub is called (I think) a gizmotron which
is a little spinning wheel which when you touch it to the string,
produces that rolling sound.
The main riff is double-tracked and with a little adlibbing is basically as follows:
By the way this is with a Strat, or something with a whammy bar.
e|-----------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---5--5-5--3--3--2\\0//2\\0-------------5-5-5-3-3--2\\0//2-------------|
G|---4--4-4--2--0--2\\0//2\\0-------------4-4-4-2-0--2\\0//2-------------|

How to play

Indeed, drummz, but many individuals on this site have no idea what they are talking about. Upon listening closely to the song, there is a distinct "twangy" sound to the opening chords. That aspect in conjunction with the obvious wammy bar usage leads one to conclude that it is most likely a Fender Stratocaster. I talked to someone else and they said it was one of the few songs in which he used his 1960 Stratocaster in recording.

he played a strat for sure. just like what "orange juice" said... and pommegrenade...and cowboys9224

This song was 100% played on a strat. If you listen closely to when he plays you can hear him press down on the whammy bar from time to time. And also if you see him play this song live it is always with a strat because he can't play this song without a whammy bar. Trust me I know my stuff.
