Me and Loretta liked living there.

A life of their own and left us alone.

She sits and stares through the back door screen.
Cmaj7 C F
And all the news just repeats itself
       Csus C G
Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen.
C Dm G
Someday I'll go and call up Rudy,

Nothing, what's with you? Nothing much to do.

Ya know old trees just grow stronger,

And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.

Old people just grow lonesome
              Csus G C*
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."

[Verse 3]
C Dm G
So if you're walking down the street sometime
C Dm G
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Cmaj7 C F
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
          Csus C G C*
As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello."

I am 76 years old. I’m in the winter of my life. I still play in public, and I sing this song every chance I get. It’s really sad, but here in America we are forgotten . My grandmother was from Eurasia , where the elderly are revered as family treasures.

What a mark of a correct tab and a great song, that 32,000 people can view and not a single person leaves a comment. This tune always sends me to another place, my mind wandering to loved ones, the homeless, and grandparents long gone. I'm not sure I've heard a Cmaj7 sound so good, and so right. Thank you, John. Be well.
