If you've got more than 3 major chords, then one of those major chords is probably supposed to be minor (in like, 95% of contemporary worship, since these are rarely complex enough to stray from that natural framework). Looking at your chords, we can see that four of them are major ... that's 1 more than the natural 3. So to figure this out, it helps if we figure out which key this song is in ... Know this: Major chords are based on the 1st, 4th, and 5th notes of the major scale (So, for the key of C major, it would be the 1st, 4th, and 5th notes of the C major scale). It would also help you to more quickly recognize the key, from just looking at the chords, if you familiarize yourself w/ this quick guide to some of the major keys with their major chords (major key on the left, major chords for that key on the right): A: A, D, E B: B, E, F# C: C, F, G D: D, G, A E: E, A, B F: F, Bb, C G: G, C, D So ... now that you're familiar w/ the major chords for these keys, we can take a look and see if any of these sets of major chords resembles the chords you have in your tab ... Notice anything about C? ... Presto! All three major chords in the key of C are also in your tab. So what does that tell you? That you are in the key of C, and that the A is probably minor. Now, keep in mind that these rules do not apply 100000% percent of the time, but like I said ... most contemporary worship is extremely simple stuff, so you pretty much never have to get into any music theory more complicated than what I've just described in order to figure out these songs. Bonus tip: The most common minor chord used in worship songs is the minor 6th ... if you suspect that there is a minor chord, try playing the 6th ... if that doesn't work, then try the 3rd, and lastly, try the 2nd. You see, whereas there are 3 major chords in a major key, there are also 3 minor chords ... built off of the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th. In the key of C - the key of your song here - the minor 6th is the Am ... So, it fits the framework I've described for you ... Not surprisingly, b/c most worship songs do. Hope this was helpful! Hey i just played this song and i'm not a pro by any stretch but i found that any where that it has the A chord, it sounds way better With a Am. Just an observation. Other wise, thank you SOOO much for posting this :D it helped me alot.
