Gah...people keep talking about palm mutes... They're called Off-Beats. I call them upstrokes. They're common in Jamaican Reggae and Ska. Also, Seldon is right. This guys' verse chords are totally off. It's B, F#, G#minor and E. It can be played a ridiculous amount of ways, since these are fairly versatile notes... I played this song at a benefit show for my old high school just the other day...this is how I play it. It's correct, I assure you. Otherwise I wouldn't have played it at an actual performance. B F# G#m E |-7----9-----4----7-| |-7----11----4----9-| |-8----11----4----9-| |-9----11----6----9-| |-9----9-----6----7-| |-7----9-----4----7-| Also, here's the strum pattern. I'm demonstrating with ONLY the B chord. Use the same strum pattern for every chord, same through the whole song. x's are just string noise (block all strings). This is using a popular strum pattern for reggae, much like the one Mraz uses. Possibly even the same. |-x-x--7-7--x-x--7----x-x--7-7--x-x--7----| |-x-x--7-7--x-x--7----x-x--7-7--x-x--7----| |-x-x--8-8--x-x--8----x-x--8-8--x-x--8----| |-x-x--9-9--x-x--9----x-x--9-9--x-x--9----| |-x-x--9-9--x-x--9----x-x--9-9--x-x--9----| |-x-x--7-7--x-x--7----x-x--7-7--x-x--7----| Hope that helps everybody. It's difficult to get the actual "island feel" of the song using nut chords and a capo, so these barre chords will give you the crisp strikes on the off-beats that you're looking for.

the simplest way to play it is just with a capo on fourth and play g, d, em, c, over. and the intro is 7 - 9
