Why do you move the capo up to the 8th fret?

Progression is correct but you should actually begin the song with capo on 2nd fret and play in the (capo relative) key of D, then move capo to 4th fret and then to 6th fret. This song begins in the key of E, but James Taylor favours the key of D and specifically the D chord shape, so beginning in the C chord shape is wrong

I have tried several versions with fret combos for my Capo as follows 024 468 7,9,11. My last version i used no capo for the entire song. No key change works best for my voice.
