He's playing with a band who are doing the melody for him. If he played it solo he'd use F#m. If you're going to play rhythm with a lead guitarist next to you, yes, A6 is the right chord. Thanks for correcting me. Most of us are playing solo though and F#m is better.

Play F#minor instead of A6. It's easier to play and you can pick the melody better with that chord shape.
