The D is played as C/G moved two frets to the right.
Chords with a star play only once
[Intro]
G C/G G D x2
[Verse 1]
G
Smoke stacks, signs, departure times
Bm
I've got a suitcase full of clothes
C/G
I'd best be heading on down the railroad line
G D
And it'd be best if you didn't know
G
Well I tried to make you love me
Bm
Now I'll try to let you go
C/G
But by the time that train is slowing down
G D
And that whistle starts to blow
[Chorus 1]
C/G
Well I can't help but remember
G
When you asked me for your song
C/G
And I laughed but I didn't tell you
G D
That they were all yours all along
C/G
And I know this time there's no good reason
G Em
Left for me to stay
G C/G
But if these trains are meant for leavin’
G D G
Why won’t mine just roll away
G C/G G C/G G D x2
[Verse 2]
G
Maybe it's my fault for forgetting
Bm
Who I was when I was mine
C/G
I've come to realize this one thing
G D
You couldn't fix what I couldn't find
G
So when they ask me where I'm goin’
Bm
And I tell them I don't know
C/G
By the time that train is slowin’ down
G
And the whistle starts to blow
[Chorus 2]
C/G
Well I can't help but remember
G
That one snowy afternoon
C/G
When we were talking 'bout the future
G D
And all the things we were gonna do
C/G
And I know this time there's no good reason
G Em
Left for me to stay
G
But if these trains are second chances
C/G G D G
Why'd I watch mine roll away
G Em C/G G C/G G
Ooooooooooooh
G Em C/G G C/G G
Ooooooooooooh
G Em C/G Dadd9/F# C/G G
Ooooooooooooh
[Verse 3]
G*
Well the sun has come and gone now
Bm*
That's how it goes, I understand
C/G*
When I reach into my pocket
G* D*
To hold your picture in my hand
G
It's a quiet consolation
Bm
A mistake that I don't mind
C/G
Maybe you'll meet me at the station
G D
Or maybe somewhere down the line
[Chorus 3]
C/G
And I can't help but remember
G C/G G
That one story that you told
C/G
Bout how you rearranged the furniture
G D
When you were just a few years old
C/G
And I know this time there's no good reason
G Em
Left for me to stay
G C/G
But if these trains are meant for leaving
G D G
Why won’t mine just roll away
G* C/G*
Yeah if these trains are meant for leaving
G* D* G* C/G G
Why won’t mine just roll away

Hey this is close but if I'm not mistaken he plays the G as a G6 and the D as a Dadd9, add11 (like C/D slid up 2 frets towards the bridge )
