Sullivan Street by Counting Crows
                  from August and Everything After
                  Words: Adam Duritz
Music: Adam Duritz & David Bryson

This is a very simple song to play involving a few easy chords with
alternating bass strings played. The effectiveness comes from the haunting,
soulful vocals.

These are the two main chords that make up the song (actually, the main riff)

e|--2--2--2-------2-------|
B|--3--3--3-------3-------|
G|--2--2--2-------0-------|
D|--0-----0-------0-------|
A|--------0---0---x-------|
E|----------------3-------|

Strum those in rhythm, and it should sound right.
Those are the chords for all of the verse parts.
For the bridge, just arpeggiate them.

The verse is just a repetition on those chords for 8 bars I think.

[Intro]

D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7

[Verse]

D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Took the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Across the water and home through the town
D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Past the shadows that fall down wherever we meet
D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Pretty soon now, I won't come around //// (strong strum)

[Chorus]

      G A Em
I'm almost drowning in her sea
                    G D
She's nearly fallen to her knees
      D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Took the way home .....(Ba, Ba, Baaaa)

[Verse]

D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Took the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Where all the bodies hang on the air
D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
If she remembers she hides it whenever we meet
D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Either way now I don't really care

'Cause I'm gone from there

[Chorus]

      G A Em
I'm almost drowning in her sea
                     G D (arpeggio*)
She's nearly crawling on her knees

      Gmaj7 D Gmaj7

                         D Gmaj7
      She's down on her knees
                         D Gmaj7
      She's down on her knees

(strum)

D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Took the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
              D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
Where I'm just another rider burned to the ground

Come tumbling down

[Chorus]

     G A Em
I'm almost drowning in her sea
                     A Em
She's near me, crawling on her knees
                 G D Gmaj7 D Gmaj7
     It's almost everything I need.

[Outro]

                 D Gmaj7
I'm down on my knees
                 D Gmaj7
I'm down on my knees

I'm down on....
                 D Gmaj7
    down on my knees.
                    D
   I'm down on my knees.

*Arpeggio:

D pluck 4&1 together, then 1,2,3,1,2,3
Gmaj7 pluck 6&1 together, same pattern

Good tab - a couple comments/corrections: - the D/G is really a Gmaj7 - the D can (should) often include the A in the bass - The D/G leading into the chorus should be a G to distinguish it from the verse D/G Otherwise it all looks good. Regards, - Robert

i think it sounds great, based around those chords - i'm only a beginner so i can't get technical (!) but putting more emphasis on the bottoms of the chords, then strumming the shorter rhythms on the higher notes sounds pretty accurate... i found it helps to play along with the song and just adjust as you go along

Sounds good to me too. Maybe it's not perfect, but if you play it for someone, they will surely not know the difference. Cept maybe Adam Duritz.
