The chords at “I still see some value there but my edge is pretty thin” follow the verse progression, not the chorus: D-G-A-D
The Gbm should be called an F#m, it’s diatonic to the key of D and we don’t repeat letters in a key, and already have the G (IV), F#m is the natural iii chord :)
