"Call On Me" by Chicago
(Loughnane)
Chicago VII 1974

For the intro, I strum the first six chords once and then make-up my own kind of rhythm.
Also, sliding up the fretboard from Am and A#m a little sounds like the recording.
It would help to play all of the chords using barre chords, and a wah-wah pedal is needed.

Intro: Fmaj7 Gmaj7 Gm9

       Bbm Cm Am9

|Gmaj7 | |Bbmaj7 | |

|Fmaj7 | |B9 |C9 |F#m9 Gmaj7| |F#m9 Gmaj7| |

|F#maj7 | | F#maj7 Gmaj7|Amaj7

For the verses, I play a strumming pattern of:

 w w x w u x u u x w u w with w(down), u(up), and x(muted)

Verse 1:
Amaj7 C#m7 Bm7
The feeling was clear, clear as a blue sky on a sunny day

               G#m7 C#9
Everything was you, oo ooo

Dmaj7 C#m7 Bm7
'Cause no one made me feel, the way I felt with you, oh oohh

        C9 F#m7 Gmaj7
Call on me 'cause I love you

    F#m7 Gmaj7 F#m7 Gmaj7 F#maj7
You know I do, you love me too. oo ooo oooo

For verse 2, the strumming pattern stays the same, but for the first D chord, I play:

 w u w u w x w x w x (twice)

Verse 2:
F#maj7 Gmaj7 Amaj7 C#m7 Bm7
Then came a change, when I said I would soon be leavin' you

                G#m7 C#9
Nothing else to do, oooh

Dmaj7 C#m7 Bm7
But please remember I'll never lose the thought of you

        C9 F#m7 Gmaj7
Call on me 'cause I love you

    F#m7 Gmaj7 F#m7 Gmaj7 F#maj7
You know I do, you love me too. oo ooo oooo

I ad-lib on rhythm for the instrumental. It's difficult to hear the guitar
over the brass and percussion anyways.

F#maj7
Woa wo wo wo wo wo wo

|Bm7 | |Amaj7 | |

|Cmaj7 | |Gmaj7 | |

|Cm7 | |Gmaj7 | |

|Gmaj7 | Gmaj7 Abmaj7|

Same strum pattern as verse 1

Verse 3:
Bbmaj7 Dm7 Cm7
You've got to find someone else to somehow take my place

                    Am7 D9
Share his life with you, oo ooo

Ebmaj7 Dm7 Cm7
But if you need a friend, you can always count on me

         Db9 Gm7 Abmaj7
Count on me 'cause I love you,

    Gm7 Abmaj7
You know I do,

     Gm7 Abmaj7 Gmaj7

From the comments here, I can't believe that the guitar chords to this song are so controversial! :) I used to play in a band that played this song, and I never used any guitar voicings with open strings like the Fmaj7 and Gmaj7 diagrammed above, and I'm sure Terry Kath didn't either. (For example, I use xCFCEA at the third fret, with 1st finger for the CF and 3rd finger for CEA at the fifth fret, for the Fmaj7. Then just move up two frets for the Gmaj7. Very easy to play. Sorry I can't insert a chord diagram.) But these chord symbols are correct. Nice job, Swampdeer718. Love Terry Kath, and love this song.

I never knew there was a comments or correction area. Very cool Yeah, this tab is a bit off but the effort was good. I'm working on this tune for a set our set list and so far I have a love hate relationship with it. Thanks CPWKruger for the additional corrections.

Can anyone make this song.... easier? : P I loooove this song but I don't know about these chords. They don't sound quite right! I'll give you five bucks.
