A
I was sitting outside one night, and...
A D A
The moon hung like a shadow on a rung over Shanghai
F#m E
Them soldier boys were returning home screaming "Banzai"
A D
And the kids are still playing their game
A F#m
Getting hustled and rustled out in the rain
Bm A E
As I sat inside listening to the broadcast
A D A
Oh, save my soul, sweet rock and roll, 'cause I'm sinkin' fast
N.C.
And then the band played

[Verse]
A D A
Now the legendary chaplain of the fighting 51st was getting ready to go
F#m E
I said, "Padre, do you know a cheap virgin who likes to tango?"
A D A
He said, "You can try Linda Lee", around the corner and across the
F#m
sea
Bm E
Word is out, word is out she's fast
D E A
Well, blow me down now, Linda, 'cause I'm sinkin' fast
A D F#m E
A D Bm E
F#m E
Yes, and them cats are sure getting fat down in the train yard
Bm F#m
And the sandman brings them dreams to ship out in the boxcars
Bm F#m
The union says, "Hold." Break out the dice, break out the gold
D E
It's lunchtime at last
A E
And old big Mama said, "George Raft's tonight on the late show"
D E
She sits straddling a kitchen chair, really gung-ho
F#m Bm
She shivers with chills, wet with slot car thrills
D E
Hypnotically lost in the glass
G E
And we all sigh with the sunrise
E
As we watch the credits pass
A D A
And then the morning cloak fell down like a hoax over Sleepy Town
F#m E
And garbage truck vigilantes out making the last rounds
A D A F#m
The inheritor he sipped his beer and poked cute fun of the queer
Bm E
And threatened to kick his ass
N.C.
A bell rings, a horn blows, and he’s outside pumping gas
But things were moving so slow tonight
A
So, the kid goes back inside the station
E
And turns on his radio (to his local AM station)
One, two, three, ow!
[Chorus]
A D
And the band played
A F#m
Out on the radio
A D
It was alright
A F#m D E A D
A F#m
It's on the radio
[Refrain]
N.C.
And the boys in the band sang (Whoa whoa whoa wo-ho)
That's right (Whoa whoa whoa wo-ho)
I'm so excited (Whoa whoa whoa wo-ho)
Everybody (Whoa whoa whoa wo-ho)
A D
And the band played
A D
Everybody

The parenthesis really need to be around (And The Band Played). Without them, it makes it seem like Tokyo is a person and the leader of a band. Not sure why it was put up without them.

Ha, never expected to see a tab for this one here! Even cooler that someone my age made it. Always liked this track, it's a very simple riff but very catchy. That double stop caps it off perfectly. Check out the '74 Cleveland version too - the sound quality is great!
