Subject: Re: REQ: One Toke Over the Line by Brewer and Shipley
The story I've heard about this recording (I think in a recorded
interview with Robert Hunter several years ago) is that it was the
Grateful Dead backing up Brewer and Shipley on this recording. It
certainly sounds like them. Anyway ...
One Toke Over The Line - Brewer and Shipley
[Intro]
C C7 F C
C C/B Am D9 F G C
[Chorus]
C C7 F C
One toke over the line, sweet Jesus, one toke over the line
C C/B Am D9 F G C
Sittin' downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line
C C7
Waitin' for the train that goes home, sweet Mary
F C
Hoping that the train is on time
C C/B Am D9 F G C
Sittin' downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line
[Verse]

Who do you lo-ove, I hope it's me
C D9 F G7
I've been changing, as you can plainly see

F C
and my mama said
C Am D9 F
If I should choose to make it part of me
G7
Would surely strike me dead, and now I'm
[Chorus]
C C7 F C
One toke over the line, sweet Jesus, one toke over the line

[Verse 3]
C C7 F C
I-I sail a-way-y, a country mile
C D9 F G7
And now I'm returning, and showing off my smile
C C7
I met all the girls and I loved myself a few,
F C
and to my surprise
C Am D9 F
Like everything else that I've been through
G7
They opened up my eyes, and now I'm
[Chorus]
C C7 F C
One toke over the line, sweet Jesus, one toke over the line
C C/B Am D9 F G C
Sittin' downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line
(Don't you know I'm just)
C C7
Waitin' for the train that goes home, sweet Mary
F C
Hoping that the train is on time
C C/B Am D9 F G C
Sittin' downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line
[Chorus Solo]
C C7 F C

Awesome, the only error I found was in the lyrics. It should be:
"I felt the joy and I learned about the pain, that my mama said
If I should choose to make a part of me
Would surely strike me dead..."
See, when you put the word "that" in place of "and" it makes more sense because then it says explicitly that the pain will strike me dead. Also, on the record, it sounds more like "that" than "and." At least, in my humble opinion.

This the better version
