I tried getting the actual tabs for this song, but was disappointed when my searches
returned only chord progressions that were close, but not quite as dissonant and beautiful
as the actual chords of the song. So, after listening to the song more times that I can
count, here is the actual guitar part. The guitar part was constructed by matching notes
on the piano (and sounds like the song), so I believe it is authentic.

PLEASE NOTE IRREGULAR TUNING (credit to some random person who commented on the video on youtube!)

The line:
1/2-2-1/2-2/2-/2---1-1/2-2-1/2-2/2-/2---0-
I know I said to slide, but I usually just put down my middle finger onto the second
fret instead of sliding my index. The notation 2/2 mean after the first 2 on the beat play
a quick first fret and quickly press back down on fret two. This is like the second /2.
Quickly play the first fret before pressing the second.

X in the tablature means that I usually just graze the string with my ring finger
(playing the D string lowest in pitch). This way you can strum all six strings but that one
will be inaudible.

d:Stroke downward, u: upward, p: play with thumb before continuing down stroke. These
are just included so that you get a sense of the strum pattern.

Enjoy!

Can't get your tuning to work Do you want to retry?

Hey I was just looking at a few YT videos of Graham Coxon playing this song and thought I'd share what works for me - the tuning at first seems to be DADGAD which is kind of a known "weird" tuning (for pop/rock at least), so you'd drop both E strings a step down to D and also drop the B string a step down to A, and that's what your tab is written for. One thing I've seen in his live videos is that he actually might not be dropping the low E string, and playing roots of the chords with his thumb like you would in standard, so EADGAD looks even closer. The song's in G major, and the chords are roughly D9, F-G, C9, Bb for the verse, G, Bb for the pre-chorus and C(m), Bm-Bbm-Am for the chorus. Since he's almost always leaving the bottom two strings open those notes create more complex chords but this should be the gist. I put C(m) because he's playing with the third of that chord hammering it on so it moves between being C minor and C major. Another thing I noticed is that he uses the open E shape for most of the chords. Mainly only D and C in the verse are different, played in the standard tuning open positions which with this tuning turns those shapes into 9th chords. The others are the 022100 shape moved around the neck but with the two highest strings always left ringing, so Bb is 688700, Am is 577500, C(m) is 8 10 10 8h9 0 0. On top of all this, the studio recording sounds like he's got a chorus-like modulation effect on the guitar which muddles up the pitch and makes the whole harmony sound even more fluent and droney. Anyway that's my 2 cents, nice to see there's other people amused and intrigued by this song!
