A B E Ema7/D# C#mi C#m7/B A B E

[Verse 1]

E Ema7/D#
It's been over thirty days

     E7/D A/C#
I've not received your letter

    Ami/C D E
My fingernails are chewed down to the bone

E Ema7/D#
So many different ways

     E7/D A/C#
I've had to say I'm sorry

          Ami/C D E
While I'm left here in this eight by ten alone

[Pre-chorus 1]

A E
It's not the four walls movin' in that tortures me

A B
It's not the cold cement or shivers down my spine

E Ema7/D# E7/D A/C#
It's just the visions in my head that make me paranoid

Ami/C D E
And wonder if I get out will you be mine

[Instrumental Interlude]

E Ema7/D# E7/D A/C# Ami/C D E [x2]

[Verse 2]

E Ema7/D#
I never should have treated you

   E7/D A/C#
so bad my love I'm sorry

    Ami/C D E
I'm broken, now I can see that now it's true

   E Ema7/D# E7/D
My picket fence is turning razor wire

            A/C#
And now I'm awaiting trial

Ami/C D E
Things you have to know I did not do

[Pre-chorus 2]

A E
If I could get a word with you I'd be just fine

A B
Or any envelope with both your name and mine

E Ema7/D#
We'd be enough to keep me going

     E7/D A/C#
In a world where I'm left knowing that

        Ami/C D E
There's something more to live for just outside

[Chorus]

A B
Seems like the last time, feels like the first

E Ema7/D# C#mi B
Though I've had bad days, this has to be my worst

A B D E
I'm left thinking of you dear, while I'm waiting here

[Verse 3]

E Ema7/D#
I haven't seen the sun

         E7/D A/C#
Since it rested on your shoulder

         Ami/C D E
While we walked along that vacant river side

E Ema7/D#
They carried me away

     E7/D A/C#
To a place where I get older

     Ami/C D E
If I cannot prove to them you never died

[Chorus 2]

A B
Seems like the last time, feels like the first

E Ema7/D# C#mi B

Nice tab! I play it out of "D" with Capo on 2. Also FWIW, on the return to the root at the end of the verse (D -> E) or if using a capo (C shape -> D shape), he plays it by holding the shape and sliding up 2 frets.

Can someone lay out the chords for the capo 2 in D....looks like that is Billy's way to play it. Thanks

I would love for someone to create a banjo adaption. The chords on guitar are almost impossible to play in the banjo, and being 13 I have friccin idea how to do this. If anyone would do this, I would truly appreciate it.
