You can pretty much figure out the finger picking for yourself, I personally
like plucking the strings at "But neither you nor I'd been" and single
downstrokes at "sure ain't gonna hold you down." Also, I think in some
versions he holds the F at "Hills of Kentucky" for an extra measure. Enjoy!
C F
Well a robin flew by my window
C G
I thought it just might be you
C
Judging from the colour of its breast
F
And the sound of its song
C G C
But I'm just thinking of you
C F
Cos you're in sunny California
C G
The fertile land John Steinbeck wrote,
C
But when I came
F
not a single fertile patch
C G C C7
Could be spared for you and me
F G C
You see I wanted to love you baby
C G
But neither you nor I'd been loved before
C C7 F
I thought I could change the world if I just held you high enough
C G C
The truth is I couldn't hold you up at all
Am G F
I couldn't hold you up
Am G C5
I couldn't hold you up
G C
And I sure ain't gonna hold you down
*Solo* (same chords as verse)
C
Well I'm leaving
F
Walking back home
C G
I don't care if it takes years or more
C F
But as I walk through the hills of Kentucky
C G
The leaves begin to turn red
Am G F
And I think of you
Am G C
Yes, I think of you
G C
The prettiest tree on the mountain.

I love this song and it's so close to perfect, but it sounds spot on if I transition to a cmaj7 on the word breast between the c and f on the first verse and in the same spot on the other verses. There should also be one on the word wold in the chorus. Thanks for making this! Ben Sollee is flawless :)
