I know this tab is old, but I might as well post this anyway, just in case people are still wondering how he did it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SaflLnvWz4 Above is a video of the song, including a part where the camera focuses on Tom doing the intro, only with different notes. He just plays open G string, or 5th fret on the D string, while the other hand changing the setting on his whammy pedal, from 2 oct below - 1 oct below - detune (?) - then finally 3rd and 4th and 3rd harmonizing, and back down again. And of course, some moderate tempo of the tremolo effect. In the live video above, he's playing 5th fret on the low E string (A), but not just using the octave below settings, but also the octave above settings; and with the same tremolo settings.
