Song Title: A Horse With No Name
Artist/Band: America
Album: Greatest Hits

Tab by JC Rea (jcrp_21@hotmail.com)

Tuning:Standard

(Chords)

Em: 022000
E7sus4 or Esus4/D: 220200

[Verse 1]

         Em E7sus4
"On the first part of the journey
        Em E7sus4
I was looking at all the life
             Em E7sus4
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
             Em E7sus4
There was sand and hills and rings
       Em E7sus4
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
           Em E7sus4
And the sky with no clouds
           Em E7sus4
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
          Em E7sus4
But the air was full of sound".

(It's the same for the rest of the song; in order to play this song
just like it sounds, I recommend you to play the "big strings"(E,A and D)
alone before every Em Chord part;I mean: play 022---, before playing the whole
 chord:022000)

[Solo]

(It's played with a mandolin in the original song, but it also sounds good with a guitar)

Gerry Beckley has explained in Acoustic Guitar magazine (March 2007) that the correct tuning for the song is D, E, D, G, B, D and the three chords that follow are: F#m11b9 E11sus2 E9sus4 D--2 D--2 D--2 B--0 B--0 B--0 G--0 G--2 G--2 D--2 D--0 D--0 E--0 E--2 E--0 D--2 D--0 D--0 A 12-string acoustic guitar (with a Capo on the 2nd fret) plays an added F# (second fret, high E string) on the back beat of the Em Also the "waterfall" type solo is played actually by the same 12-string acoustic guitar as well and not a mandolin. The tuning is unique to this song; they did not use it on any other America song. When America played this live in 1975 Dan Peek also plays along on a six string acoustic guitar when he originally recorded bass for it.
