I've sat and watched a few live videos of the song, specifically hand placement. Ronin didn't post the "easier way", he posted the correct way. Or at least definitely the most right sounding way. Watch Gabel's hand, it's right there at the top of the guitar, nowhere near the frets posted here.

I think the intro is actually played differently - both ways sound good though - but I play it like this
